John Dorey

Director

John Dorey, current Board Member. I moved to San Clemente over 27 years ago and found it to be one of the great decisions of my life. My children graduated from SCHS and both my son and daughter played volleyball for the Tritons. I grew up in a small town in Northern California, so I appreciate that unique small town feel that San Clemente offers. I graduated from UC Berkeley with a BS Degree in Business and then an MBA from UCLA. For a while, I lived in CDM and worked in Commercial Real Estate for Coldwell Banker and later transitioned into owning my own business selling corporations for about 6 years. After nearly 40 years as an investment banker, I retired in 2012 as a Sr. Managing Director for such international firms as Citigroup and McGladrey Capital Markets where I specialized in Mergers and Acquisitions. I became active in the City’s government in 1998 when the Coastal Trail was being designed. I helped bridge the gap between the community and the City to help design and negotiate the final plans and authorizations needed from the different Rail Authorities to complete its construction in 2008. I then worked on the City’s Quiet Zone Task Force from 2008 when the City started to obtain a QZ until it was successfully implemented in 2016. I was honored to be selected by the SC City Council to be on the Beaches, Parks and Recreation Commission from 2016 to 2022. I joined the Friends Foundation Board in 2008 and during that time, I have been both a Vice President for 4 years and a President for 4 years. I have also been Chairman of the Golf tournament, the Carnival, and the Sports Wall of Fame Committee. The Friends Foundation is an important financial tool for the Parks Department as it allows the City the opportunity to provide scholarships to financially challenged local families to participate in after school programs that they would otherwise miss. It also allows the City to provide additional youth programs and transportation opportunities to its residents and families that cannot fit into its annual budget.
